self portrait in stitch 2014/2015

This is one of the pieces out of a series of self portraits I completed in 2014/2015 in the art portfolio preparation course in Abbeyleix, Co. Loais.

Our brief was to take two weeks to make as many self portraits as possible with a minimum of 20. I decided to create one of these portraits through textiles. My inspiration for this piece was artists such as Cas Holmes, Anne Kelly, Jean littleJohn  and Jan Beany.

For this piece used found and recycled fabric, free machine stitch and applique as well as hand embroidery.

I enjoy the imperfection , I cherish the movement and the mistakes, I like to look back and think about the childlike qualities and the randomness of the lines.
